Air Source Heat Pumps

Air Source Heat Pumps

An air source heat pump (ASHP) is a system which transfers heat from outside to inside a building, or vice versa. Under the principles of vapor compression refrigeration, an ASHP uses a refrigerant system involving a compressor and a condenser to absorb heat at one place and release it at another. For climates with moderate heating and cooling needs, heat pumps offer an energy-efficient alternative to furnaces and air conditioners. Like your refrigerator, heat pumps use electricity to move heat from a cool space to a warm space, making the cool space cooler and the warm space warmer.

The benefits of air source heat pumps

Lower fuel bills, especially if you are replacing conventional electric heating

Potential income through the UK government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

Lower home carbon emissions, depending on which fuel you are replacing

No fuel deliveries needed

can heat your home as well as your water

minimal maintenance required

can be easier to install than a ground source heat pump
